Alpine A290 Up Close: The Electric Hot Hatch With 218 PS And 6.4 Seconds To 100 km/h

Alpine's first fully electric car stood in matt grey on the Warsaw stand in November 2025. In Germany it lists from €39,000 to €45,000, and the A290+ name in the video is a British one.

The faster Alpine A290 makes 218 PS and reaches 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds, according to Alpine Germany. Those are the GT Performance and GTS. The card on the Warsaw stand calls the A290 Alpine’s first fully electric car.

We filmed the car at the show on 14 November 2025. It stood on the Alpine Warszawa stand at Warsaw Motor Show 2025, in matt grey.

Two Power Levels On One Battery

ADAC lists two power levels on the same 52 kWh battery. The GT and GT Premium have 130 kW (177 PS) and take 7.4 seconds to 100 km/h. The GT Performance and GTS have 160 kW (218 PS) and take 6.4 seconds.

So the step up buys 41 PS and one second, and the 220 HP on the Warsaw card points at the faster pair.

Matt Grey, Lit Crosses On The Nose

The Warsaw car wears matt grey paint and black alloys. A lit X light signature runs through the headlamps and the bumper, in front of a dark blue wall carrying the big Alpine A.

The card beside it calls the car an electric hot hatch on the CMF-B EV platform, in Polish and English, and gives no trim. Its small print appears to read 220 HP.

The blue car next to it is an A110, on a plate reading ALPINE Warszawa.

Hot Hatch Hardware Under The Renault Base

Alpine’s launch release (13 June 2024, relayed by Automotive World) lists a track widened by 60 mm, hydraulic bump stops and 4-piston Brembo calipers. A red OV button on the steering wheel gives extra power for up to 10 seconds. Alpine Germany adds 19-inch wheels with Michelin tyres developed for the car.

The AUTO TV walkaround says Alpine rebuilt the Renault 5 platform for the A290. The cabin it shows has two-tone leather, a flat-bottomed steering wheel with a centre stripe and aluminium buttons inspired by Formula 1.

A Half-Hour Stop For 65 Per Cent

The battery is where Alpine kept things small. It holds 52 kWh, DC charging tops out at 100 kW, and Alpine Germany quotes up to 380 km of WLTP range. A charge from 15 to 80 per cent takes 30 minutes.

So a long trip means planning a half-hour charging stop, and 380 km is the best case.

Where The Money Goes

ADAC’s German catalogue has listed the A290 since December 2024 at €39,000 for the GT, €42,200 for the GT Premium and GT Performance, and €45,000 for the GTS. The Première Édition, a limited launch run, was €46,200 until July 2026.

At launch in July 2024 the list ran from €38,700 to €46,200 (electrive, 31 July 2024). On 15 October 2026 Alpine Germany’s site says “ab 39.000 €” and advertises an electric-car bonus of up to €6,000. Our Erfurt report explains its conditions.

The Plus Is A British Name

The video title says A290+. That is Alpine UK’s name for its 2026 range of GT+, GT Performance+ and GTS+. The plus marks 52 kWh battery packs from Renault’s Douai plant in France. Those packs lifted the car into the full £3,750 Band 1 of the UK Electric Car Grant (evpowered, 3 December 2025; gov.uk lists the A290 in Band 1).

Alpine UK lists £30,245, £32,745 and £34,245 for the three A290+ trims on 15 October 2026, after the grant, for orders between 1 October and 16 December.

Germany has no such range yet. Alpine Germany’s fine print still names the A290 GT, GT Premium, GT Performance and GTS, and the Warsaw car, photographed about three weeks before the UK range was reported, carries a card that says A290.

Our Take

Judged from the stand, the A290 makes its case on looks and hardware. It has a distinct front end, and Alpine lists the wider track, the hydraulic bump stops and the Brembo calipers that the AUTO TV walkaround cites, with a cabin of Formula 1 styled controls.

Its price argument rests on British figures after the UK grant, and the A290+ trim names behind them are absent from Alpine Germany’s pages. In Germany the list runs from €39,000 to €45,000.

So the A290 earns its hot hatch label on the stand, and its value case is a British one.
