smart #5 Premium First Look: 590 km And Charging At Up To 400 kW

The biggest smart yet is an electric SUV on an 800-volt system. Blick put its Swiss launch prices between CHF 44,500 and CHF 55,500.

The smart #5 Premium covers up to 590 km with rear-wheel drive and charges at up to 400 kW on DC, according to Blick. On the 800-volt versions, a 10 to 80 per cent charge takes as little as 18 minutes.

It is the biggest smart yet, and the rear-wheel-drive Premium makes 363 PS (267 kW). We filmed a Premium on the smart stand at Auto Zürich on the show days, 29 to 31 October 2025. Our Auto Zürich 2025 report covers the cars on the other stands.

Where The 400 kW Comes From

The cheapest #5, the Pro, has a 74.4 kWh battery and charges at up to 150 kW. Blick puts the 800-volt cars in a separate group: Pro+, Premium, Pulse and the Summit Edition.

The versions with the large battery also take AC at up to 22 kW, which Blick puts at about 5.5 hours for a full charge. The Pulse and Summit have two motors for 587 PS (432 kW) and 643 Nm.

OLED Screens, Sennheiser Sound And A Light Bar

The AUTO TV walkaround spends most of its time in the cabin of the Premium. It lists two large OLED displays, an augmented-reality head-up display, a Sennheiser sound system with Dolby Atmos, ambient lighting in many colours and wood-grain trim.

It also points out heated and ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic roof and a V2L function that powers equipment from the battery. Outside, it shows the full-width light strip across the nose and the matt beige finish of the car on the stand.

All-Wheel Drive Costs 50 km

The faster cars lose range. Blick gives up to 590 km for the rear-wheel-drive 800-volt cars and up to 540 km for the two-motor Pulse and Summit, so all-wheel drive costs 50 km.

The Premium is available both ways. The rear-wheel-drive car is the one with the longer range, and the all-wheel-drive car is the quicker one.

From CHF 44,500 At Launch

Blick gave the Swiss launch prices on 25 March 2025, with sales starting at the end of April. The Pro started at CHF 44,500 and the 800-volt versions at CHF 49,500. The limited Summit Edition cost CHF 55,500.

Automobil Revue reported on 10 August 2026 that the Premium AWD costs CHF 55,999. That is CHF 2,000 above the Premium with rear-wheel drive, which puts that car at about CHF 53,999 by our calculation.

Our Take: smart Moves Upmarket

We see the #5 Premium as a bold move upmarket for the brand. The video frames it as smart’s jump from city cars to full-size SUVs, aimed at the Tesla Model Y and the Škoda Enyaq.

Our summary is that the car mixes Mercedes design language and Geely engineering with a charging speed that embarrasses more expensive EVs.
