BYD’s Tang is a seven-seat electric SUV that reaches 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, according to BYD. BYD Europe’s launch release of 26 August 2022 gives it 380 kW and all-wheel drive.
At the Brussels Motor Show in January 2023, the Tang stood on BYD’s stand in red, on black alloy wheels, with a Thule roof box on top. We filmed it there and photographed it on 18 January. The video, uploaded on 7 February, runs 3 minutes 44 seconds, with music and applause and no commentary beyond a closing “thank you for watching”.
A Wide Grille On A Long Body
The Tang is 4,870 mm long, 1,950 mm wide and 1,725 mm high, on a 2,820 mm wheelbase. The grille is a wide panel of stacked blocks, with a slim headlight band above it and a “BYD TANG” plate in the bumper.
BYD’s table lists a top speed of 180 km/h, and 22-inch wheels and a panoramic sunroof as standard. BYD lists boot figures of 235, 940 and 1,655 litres, without saying which seat layout each belongs to.
The Blade Battery Underneath
Under the floor sits BYD’s 86.4 kWh Blade Battery, a lithium iron phosphate pack. BYD claims 400 km WLTP and DC charging from 30 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes.
That range is the trade-off. The Tang’s 400 km WLTP matches the Jeep Avenger‘s, but it needs 86.4 kWh to get there, against the Avenger’s 54 kWh.
BYD said the first customer cars would arrive in the fourth quarter of 2022, mainly in the Benelux and Nordic markets. It said the Tang launched in Norway in August 2021 and ranked second among electric SUVs there in July 2022. The same release said the Tang, the Han saloon and the Atto 3 would all be shown at the Paris Motor Show in October 2022.
One Version, One Belgian Price
Autotijd.be’s January 2023 list had a single Tang, the 86 kWh, 518 PS Premium AWD, at €72,140 including VAT. By January 2024 the same list showed €71,390. In October 2024 it showed €72,000 for the 380 kW AWD Flagship.
BYD said detailed specifications and prices would follow closer to the official introduction. For scale, the same January 2023 Belgian lists start the Avenger at €36,000.

Our Take: Quick And Big, With A Big Battery To Match
The Tang pairs 380 kW and all-wheel drive with a body 4,870 mm long, seven seats, 22-inch wheels and a panoramic sunroof as standard. Its range costs more battery than a smaller car’s, with 86.4 kWh for the 400 km WLTP the Avenger gets from 54 kWh.
Even so, the headline holds up on paper. By BYD’s own figures, this is a seven-seater that reaches 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.
