Hyundai Inster Cross First Look: A Mini Electric SUV With Roof Racks And Up To 360 Km

Hyundai's smallest electric car gets cladding, skid plates and standard roof racks. In Brussels it stood next to the standard Inster, which finished fourth at European Car of the Year.

The Hyundai Inster Cross puts roof racks, skid plates and 17-inch wheels on Hyundai’s smallest electric car, and Hyundai quotes up to 360 km of range. Hyundai Europe unveiled it on 15 October 2024. Three months later we photographed an olive-green Cross on the Hyundai stand at the Brussels Motor Show, on 11 January 2025.

A Mini Car With Boots On

Hyundai’s release lists wide rectangular bumpers, embossed black cladding, front and rear skid plates and side rocker panels. The 17-inch alloy wheels are unique to the Cross. Roof racks are standard, and a roof basket is an option.

In our photograph the body is a matt olive green with a grey lower bumper. A row of square pixel lights runs across the nose, and the sign says “All new INSTER Cross”. Hyundai describes the interior as grey cloth with lime-yellow accents.

A second photograph shows the standard Inster on the same stand, in pale yellow. The Cross is the one with the black cladding and the roof rack.

A Small Cabin That Works Hard

The AUTO TV walkaround calls the Inster Cross small, really small, at about 3.8 metres long. It says the interior feels bigger than the outside suggests, with a clean, modern design and physical buttons for the climate controls.

It also points to wireless phone charging and a rear bench that slides, so owners can trade legroom for cargo space. Hyundai Belgium’s page confirms the 10.25-inch touchscreen and the wireless charging port. The video’s title calls the Cross the most surprising small EV of the year.

The Sibling That Finished Fourth

The standard Inster was one of seven finalists for the 2025 European Car of the Year. It finished fourth with 172 points, according to caroftheyear.org, behind the Renault 5, the Kia EV3 and the Citroën C3.

Listed there as Inster / Casper Electric, it was also one of three finalists for 2025 World Car of the Year, with the BMW X3 and the Kia EV3. Those results belong to the standard car. The Cross arrived as the adventurous version of a model that was already collecting awards.

The Top Of The Inster Price List

Autotijd’s Belgian list of December 2024 ran from €24,499 for the cheapest Inster to €33,049. The Cross sat at the top, at €32,949 and €33,049 for its two listings, so it has the highest minimum price in the family.

Today Hyundai Belgium’s Inster Cross page shows “from €23,349” (15 October 2026). That is a net price after all unconditional and conditional discounts, so the December 2024 list remains the Cross price we quote.

360 Km Is The Best Case

Hyundai’s “up to 360 km” is a ceiling, quoted with 10 to 80 per cent charging in around 30 minutes. Hyundai’s page names the Cross as the Long-Range 49 kWh car, with Vehicle-to-Load available, and Autogids lists 293 km for the 49 kWh front-wheel-drive Cross in its data sheet.

That is 67 km less than Hyundai’s headline figure for the same battery.

Our Take

The Cross is a styling and equipment story, and the stand backs that up. It has the cladding, the racks and the unique wheels, and Hyundai’s release lists the sliding rear seats and the 360 km figure. The AUTO TV video makes its case on size and cabin.

Before you compare it with the standard Inster, ask the dealer which wheel, roof and option choices the quoted range assumes, and get the version and the options written down.
