Peugeot’s E-T16 Concept is the clearest look yet at the next E-208, pushed into an 816-hp, three-motor “Hyperhatch”. Developed with Peugeot Sport, it’s a world premiere in Paris.
It arrives forty years after the 205 T16 won the World Rally Championship in 1985 and 1986, and Peugeot presents it as that car’s spiritual successor.
A Rear That Opens Like The Rally Car’s
The best detail is at the back. The whole rear body tilts open, as on the rally car, to show the rear motors, the suspension and a red roll cage. The old T16’s engine air intake now hides the charging port.
The paint is Winchester Matte Grey, with a backlit red line running around the body as a nod to the T16. Horizontal three-claw lights front and rear give it the new Peugeot face. At the back there’s a cat-ear rear wing and a twin diffuser with adjustable aero blades.
Room For Two Helmets
A 21-inch panoramic display sits above a Hypersquare control with its own central screen and steer-by-wire. The carbon-shell bucket seats are trimmed in recycled leather and come with four-point harnesses. Behind them, Peugeot says, there’s space for “two helmets”.
The Most Powerful Peugeot Yet
Three electric motors, one at the front and two at the rear, make 816 hp. Peugeot calls it the most powerful Peugeot ever, rivalled only by the 2013 208 T16 Pikes Peak car.
Peugeot claims 0–100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, 0–300 km/h in 16 seconds and three full Nürburgring Nordschleife laps without power limitation. The 85 kWh battery runs on an 800-volt system and gives up to 400 km WLTP, with 10–80% in under 15 minutes.
“E-T16 CONCEPT reinterprets the lines of the future PEUGEOT E-208, pushing every proportion to the extreme.”
Matthias Hossann, Peugeot Design Director
Our Take
Of Peugeot’s two concepts, this is the one that looks most like a car you could meet on the road. Under the wide arches and the red details, the proportions of the next E-208 are easy to read.
The 816 hp is concept-car theatre. The shape is the real preview, so the car to watch for is the next E-208, which also takes the Hypersquare wheel from Peugeot’s other Paris concept, the RCZ Vision.
