Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric First Look: The Show Car That Kept Its Under-€20,000 Promise

Renault showed the electric Twingo's cabin in Brussels in January 2025 and promised a price below €20,000. In Belgium the Evolution lists at €19,950 today, in a car 3.79 metres long.

Renault kept its promise on the Twingo. In January 2025 it showed an electric prototype in Brussels and said the production car would cost under €20,000. Today the Evolution lists at €19,950 in Belgium. We filmed the green prototype on the Renault stand, and our photograph is dated 10 January 2025, the first day of the show.

From Promise To Price List

At the show, Renault said the production car would go on sale in 2026 with an entry price under €20,000 (Renault, 10 January 2025).

Renault Belgium’s release of 16 December 2025 set the launch prices at €19,500 for the Evolution and €21,300 for the Techno. The Techno adds the OpenR Link multimedia system with Google built in and one-pedal driving. The Advanced Charge pack for DC fast charging costs €490 on both, and with it the Evolution still came to €19,990.

Today Renault Belgium lists two versions, the Evolution from €19,950 and the Techno from €21,750 (renault.be, 15 October 2026). That puts the Evolution €450 above its launch price and still €50 under the €20,000 line.

A Dashboard Hung Like A Shelf

Renault’s release of 10 January 2025 describes the dashboard as airy, cylindrical and suspended. It carries a 7-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.1-inch central screen. Beside the three air-conditioning buttons sits a red hazard-warning button in a translucent bubble, a nod to the first Twingo.

The seat upholstery borrows the colourful patterns of the first generation and matches the body colour. The floor of the show car is tinted cork. Renault says show cars exist to test new ideas, so treat the cork as an idea.

The practical parts are already real. Renault’s global release gives the length as 3.79 metres, with a boot of up to 360 litres and independently sliding rear seats on every version. The car has five doors, the bench folds in two 50/50 sections, and it sits on the AmpR Small platform, which Ampere developed in two years.

Eye Candy, Says The Video

The AUTO TV first look starts outside. It says the front has LED running lights that “seem to smile” and that the profile keeps the bubble-car silhouette of the original. It likes the charging port that blends into the bodywork.

It says the contrast roof and the muscular wheel arches make the car look more premium than its price suggests. Around the back it notes wrap-around LED tail lights.

Inside, it calls the cabin “pure eye candy”, with vibrant patterns that match the exterior colour across the door panels and dash. It also points to the cork floor and to Renault’s target of under €20,000, with the car due on the road in 2026.

The Battery Is The Compromise

The production car has a 60 kW (82 hp) motor and a 27.5 kWh battery, and Renault Belgium quotes up to 263 km of WLTP range. Renault itself labels the version “urban range” on its Belgian price page.

That is a city range. Buyers who want one car for town and motorway need a bigger battery than this one.

Our Take

The AUTO TV walkaround’s verdict is that the new Twingo channels the fun spirit of the original with a modern electric twist. It says the car could be another winner after the Renault 5 if Renault delivers on its promises.

The cork floor and the patterned seats belonged to the prototype, so the Evolution’s equipment list is the one to read. The promise Renault did keep is the price, €19,950 for the Evolution, €50 under the line it drew in Brussels.
