Mazda 6e First Look: An Electric Saloon With 552 Km Of Range And Rear-Wheel Drive

Mazda unveiled the 6e in Brussels in January 2025 with two batteries and a lit grille. We filmed it there in red, then again at Auto Zürich 2025, by which time it had Swiss prices.

The Mazda 6e claims up to 552 km on one charge, and it drives its rear wheels. Mazda said it unveiled the car at the Brussels Motor Show on 10 January 2025. We photographed a red 6e on the Mazda stand that day, with two white Mazdas parked around it, and we filmed a second car nine months later at Auto Zürich.

Two Batteries, Rear Wheels Driven

Mazda calls the 6e a fast-charging 5-door hatchback, and the AUTO TV walkaround calls it an electric sedan. Either way it is long. Mazda Switzerland’s price list gives 4,921 mm on a 2,895 mm wheelbase, and the boot holds 466 litres with another 72 litres under the front lid.

Both versions have a single rear motor, 320 Nm of torque and a 0 to 100 km/h time under 8 seconds, according to Mazda. The 68.8 kWh car makes 190 kW (258 PS) and claims up to 479 km. The 80 kWh Long Range makes 180 kW (245 PS) and claims up to 552 km.

The Long Range Is The Slow Charger

The bigger battery comes with a catch. The 68.8 kWh car charges from 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes at 200 kW. Belgian reviewers Autofans and Infomotive both put the Long Range’s DC limit at 95 kW, and Infomotive puts its 10 to 80 per cent at about 45 minutes.

So the car with the longest range is also the one that waits longest at a fast charger.

The Brussels Video Calls It Gorgeous

Our first AUTO TV video asks whether this is the most beautiful electric car ever made, and the script’s answer is warm. It calls the car absolutely gorgeous and says the wide grille, the seamless LED strip and the slim headlights give the front a premium look. It likes the low bonnet and the flowing body.

Inside, it points to the black and beige cabin, the tall centre console, the 14.6-inch touchscreen and a head-up display with augmented reality. It picks out the rear-wheel-drive layout as the part enthusiasts will notice.

The Zürich Car, Closer Up

Our photograph of the second car, a light grey 6e on a green-edged plinth, is dated 29 October 2025. The plate reads “MAZDA 6e”, with Mazda (Suisse) SA printed under it. By then the car had Swiss prices, shown below in francs.

The Zürich video goes through the same car again. It names the 14.6-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital cluster and an augmented-reality head-up display it puts at 50 inches, which matches the Swiss price list.

It adds frameless doors, hidden handles, an illuminated grille, a small front storage compartment, a 14-speaker Sony system and a driver-monitoring system.

Where The Price List Lands

In Belgium the 6e started at €42,890 for the 68.8 kWh Takumi. The Long Range Takumi was €45,290, and the Takumi Plus trim added €1,950 to each. That is €42,890 to €47,240 across four versions (Autofans, 18 March 2025, and Infomotive).

Switzerland has its own list, in francs. It ran from CHF 43,600 for the Takumi to CHF 47,200 for the Long Range Takumi Plus (Mazda Switzerland price list, 1 September to 30 November 2025).

The Belgian car is now a model year 2027. Elektrischeauto.be reported on 2 September 2026 that Belgium gets three versions with a new 78 kWh LFP battery and up to 560 km of WLTP range. The Takumi starts at €43,890, €1,000 more than before, and the Homura Plus and Takumi Plus cost €45,840. Orders are open, and dealers expect the car from November.

Our Take

The Brussels walkaround makes its case on looks and layout. It finds the design absolutely gorgeous and likes that Mazda chose rear-wheel drive. The Zürich video closes by saying the 6e shows EVs can have soul.

Both videos show the original two-battery car. The model year 2027 6e that Belgian dealers now take orders for has a single 78 kWh pack in place of both, plus a Homura Plus trim.
