Mercedes GLC With EQ Technology First Look: 360 kW, 94 kWh And A Frunk You Open With The Star

Mercedes quotes up to 713 km of WLTP range for the GLC 400 4MATIC, which the Graz organiser listed from €72,450 as a "Steiermark Premiere".

The electric GLC puts 360 kW and a 94 kWh battery behind Mercedes’s best-selling nameplate. Its 128-litre front trunk opens when you press the star on the bonnet.

At MotionExpo Graz the organiser listed the GLC 400 4MATIC as a “Steiermark Premiere”. Mercedes calls it the first model of its new electric GLC series.

Obsidian Black, Restrained Shape

We filmed the GLC at MotionExpo Graz and photographed it on Sunday 15 March 2026. The black car stood on a grey platform beside a blue “NEUHEIT” floor sign, with “Der neue GLC mit EQ Technologie” across its windscreen. A screen behind it appears to read “Neuer Mercedes-Benz Verkaufsstandort Pappas Graz”.

The AUTO TV walkaround calls it the first Mercedes on the new MB.EA platform. It says the grille has 942 individually lit elements that animate when the car is locked and unlocked. In obsidian black, the video says, the grille dominates while the proportions behind it stay restrained.

The rear carries a full-width light bar with an illuminated star. The wheelbase is 84 mm longer than the petrol GLC’s (Mercedes), which the video says shows in the stance.

A Cabin That Puts Controls Where You Can See Them

The video says the base trim has three displays, a 10.3-inch instrument display and two 14-inch screens, and that the AMG Line Premium merges them into a 39.1-inch Hyperscreen. It singles out the seat switches, which Mercedes moved to the door panel so you can see what you are adjusting.

Mercedes confirms that the wheel has a rocker switch and a roller knob again, brought back at many customers’ request.

The showpiece features cost extra. Mercedes lists the 39.1-inch Hyperscreen, the Sky Control roof with 162 lit stars and the illuminated 942-point grille as options. The photographs do not show which of them this car had.

The Frunk Is The Surprise

The front trunk holds 128 litres and opens when you press the star on the bonnet (Mercedes). The video calls it the most usable frunk at any motor show this year, and says it takes a carry-on suitcase.

Behind it, the rear seat gains 47 mm of legroom and 17 mm of headroom over the petrol GLC (Mercedes). The video says the tall side windows put the second row closer to a full-size SUV than a compact.

Boot space is 570 litres, or 1,740 litres with the seats folded electrically in a 40-20-40 split.

What Mercedes Quotes

Mercedes unveiled the electric GLC on 7 September 2025, on the eve of IAA Mobility (electrive). The GLC 400 4MATIC has 360 kW from two motors, with a two-stage gearbox on the rear axle, and a 94 kWh usable battery.

At a 330 kW charger a ten-minute stop adds up to 303 km, and the preliminary WLTP range is up to 713 km. An optional rear-axle system turns the rear wheels up to 4.5 degrees and cuts the turning circle to 11.2 metres.

A Premiere For Styria Only

The Graz organiser’s new-car list names the car “Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4matic mit EQ Technologie”, dealer Pappas Steiermark GmbH. It tags it “Steiermark Premiere”, “ab 72.450,- Euro inkl. MwSt.”, with a range of up to 715 km. The page was opened on 15 October 2026 and carries no date.

The organiser’s news item dated 15 March 2026 repeats the car in its list of Styrian premieres. The label is the organiser’s and it is regional, since Mercedes had unveiled the car in September 2025 and orders opened in Germany on 21 October 2025 from €71,281 (electrive).

Pappas’s Austrian page, marked “Stand 10/2026” and opened on 15 October 2026, lists three electric GLCs, gross including VAT and NoVA. They cost €63,810 (GLC 250), €67,410 (GLC 300 4MATIC) and €72,450 (GLC 400 4MATIC). At the show the organiser listed only the GLC 400 4MATIC. Our report on the new Mercedes compacts follows the GLC, GLB and CLA across four show floors.

Three Range Figures

The cheaper electric versions on Pappas’s page, from €63,810, were not in the organiser’s list at the show, so €72,450 buys the top GLC. Its range comes in three versions. Mercedes says 713 km, the organiser says 715 km and Pappas lists 568 km.

Our Take

The AUTO TV walkaround sets the GLC against the BMW iX3 and says Mercedes is competing on the experience inside the car. Its examples are a frunk you open with one hand and a metre of continuous display across the dashboard.

Its verdict is that the interior closes the argument faster than the spec sheet reopens it. The video gives €71,281 as the price, the German launch figure, while in Graz the organiser listed €72,450.

For buyers who do not need 360 kW, the GLC 250 at €63,810 on Pappas’s list is where to start.
