Audi stopped building the A1 and the Q2 in April 2026, and neither gets a direct successor. A few weeks earlier, on 27 March, we photographed a white A1 Sportback and a blue SQ2 on the Autocorner stand at Passion Auto Show in Martigny.
The End Of The Line
auto motor und sport reported on 27 April 2026 that the last Q2 left the line in Ingolstadt that month, after 887,231 had been built since 2016. A1 production ended in Martorell, Spain, after 1,389,658 cars since 2010. Both cars sold best in Germany, Britain and Italy, the magazine says.
Its explanation is that Audi is turning its model strategy towards the premium segment and larger cars. Audi’s entry-level role passes to the all-electric A2 e-tron, due to start production in Ingolstadt in the autumn, and the factory’s compact line-up becomes the Q3 and A3.
The magazine also suggests the two cars would no longer have paid their way under the coming Euro 7 rules. That is its assessment, not a statement from Audi.
One Dealer, Three Years
Autocorner J.C. & C. Oberson SA sells Audi and Škoda in the Valais, under a banner reading “différent depuis 1990”. It is on the organiser’s partner list for Passion Auto Show in all three years we photographed, one of sixteen garage names on every list by our count.
We have one small Audi from each edition. Around them, the stand carried the electric and the fast ends of the range: a Q4 e-tron in 2024 and an RS 3 in 2025.
In April 2024 it was a white Q2, beside a sheet headed “Q2 40 TFSI S line Attraction” and “Modèle exposé”, the dealer’s display-model price. We could not read the figures on it.

In March 2025 another white Q2 stood on the stand, near an RS 3 with the “Autocorner” plate. In March 2026 two small Audis were on the floor, the white A1 Sportback and the blue SQ2 on a ramp. The stand gave no sign that the end was weeks away, and we cannot say whether either car could still be ordered then.

AUTO TV’s own walkaround of an SQ2 is titled “LAST production year” and gives it 300 hp. That title is about the car and does not name this show.
We filmed the SQ2 at Passion Auto Show Martigny 2026. Our Audi SQ2 Up Close article has the full story.
No Prices On The Glass
The Swiss energy labels on the windscreens and stand sheets in our photographs carry the model and the consumption, not a price. Our Take
These cars looked like every other year’s small Audis on a dealer’s floor, a few weeks before the supply stopped. What the end of the A1 and Q2 changes is the way into the brand. The dealers’ stock will outlast the production lines, but the A2 e-tron will not arrive until after them, so there is a gap at the bottom of the range.
Our only source for the end date is the magazine, not Audi, and we say so. Anyone who wants one of the last A1 Sportbacks or Q2s should ask a dealer what stock is left, because we found no stock list and no order deadline for Switzerland.
