Mercedes GLB 220 d AMG Line Up Close: CHF 13,580 Off The Outgoing Model

The grey diesel on the Kestenholz stand in Basel was priced at CHF 68,524, against a struck-through CHF 82,104. Mercedes presented the electric successor three months later.

A grey Mercedes GLB on the Kestenholz stand in Basel wore a disc with “82’104 CHF” struck through and “Ihr Vorteilspreis: 68’524 CHF”. That is CHF 13,580 off, or 16.5 per cent.

It is the outgoing GLB. Mercedes presented the new electric GLB on 8 December 2025, according to electrive. We filmed the old one on the show days, 5 and 6 September 2025.

What The Disc And The Card Say

The disc names no version. The card beside the car does: it reads “GLB 220 d 4MATIC”, lists AMG Line Premium Plus equipment and gives a total price of CHF 68,524 including VAT, which matches the disc.

The plate under the nose reads “Mercedes-Benz Kestenholz”, the dealer’s own.

A Boxy Family SUV From The Old Generation

ADAC’s catalogue lists this variant, the GLB 220 d AMG Line Premium Plus 4MATIC, as a model built from January to December 2025. It belongs to the X 247 series, which ran from September 2023 to December 2025.

The body is 4,634 mm long, 1,834 mm wide and 1,692 mm high. The boot holds 570 litres, or 1,805 litres with the rear seat folded and loaded to the roof. ADAC lists five seats, and its test says a third row of two folding seats is optional.

The engine is a 2.0-litre diesel with 140 kW (190 PS) and 400 Nm, with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel drive. ADAC quotes 217 km/h and 5.9 litres per 100 km on the WLTP cycle.

A Baby G-Wagon, Says The Walkaround

The AUTO TV walkaround points to the square proportions, the short overhangs, the upright windscreen and the protective cladding around the wheel arches, and calls the GLB a “baby G-Wagon”. It lists the twin 10.25-inch screens and the MBUX system, and says a third row is available.

Its script covers the American GLB 250 and an AMG GLB 35, with miles-per-gallon and dollar prices, none of which applies to this car. Only its visual points carry over to the Basel car.

Category F On The Energy Label

The energy label beside the car shows category F, the second-lowest on the Swiss scale. ADAC rates the same engine E for CO2 efficiency in Germany, and quotes 5.9 litres per 100 km combined.

For a family buyer that is a running-cost question as much as an emissions one.

Our Take: A Practical Box, Sold Off At A Discount

For us, the GLB is a gloriously practical and surprisingly luxurious box that can seat seven. Our case is that Mercedes avoided the coupé-roof trend and built a family SUV that still wears the star.

On a Basel stand in September 2025, that case came as a discounted diesel. Our report on the new Mercedes compacts covers the successor on four show floors, and our GLB with EQ Technology First Look has its prices.

The electric GLB that followed has an 85 kWh battery and up to 631 km of WLTP range, according to electrive. It is a five-seater with a 540-litre boot, where the diesel on the Basel stand offered 570 litres and an optional third row.
