Volkswagen is handing its best-selling name to the car that replaces both the ID.4 and ID.5, and it’s bringing back physical buttons in the process. The ID. Tiguan was revealed online on 9 October, and Paris is the first time the public can see it.

That’s a big job. More than 950,000 ID.4s and ID.5s have been built since 2021, and the Tiguan is VW’s best-selling model worldwide. The combustion and hybrid Tiguan stay on sale alongside it.

Buttons Are Back

The cabin takes a step back towards buttons. There’s a physical climate button bar, a rotary volume control and a steering wheel with real buttons instead of touch pads.

The screens stay, with a 15-inch infotainment display and a 10-inch digital cockpit. A 12-inch passenger display with a privacy mode is a first for a European VW, and you can switch the instruments to Golf IV-style dials. The boot holds 534 litres, plus a 32-litre frunk.

Longer Between The Axles

VW calls the look “Pure Positive”, with a light bar across the front, 3D “whiskey glass” tail lights and pull-type door handles. It’s 4,618 mm long on the MEB+ platform, and its 2,765 mm wheelbase is 84 mm longer than the combustion Tiguan’s.

Up To 600 km From The 77 kWh Battery

Three versions share two batteries. The rear-drive 77 kWh car goes furthest, and the 4MOTION is the quickest to 100 km/h.

Pre-Sales Are Open

It is also on show at Auto Zürich 2026, 5–8 November; our Auto Zürich 2026 guide has the details.

Pre-sales opened on 13 October in Germany, France and many other European countries. Volkswagen France lists the ID. Tiguan from €43,990 to €54,760 across three trims, Trend, Life and Style.

The 58 kWh car (190 PS) costs €43,990 in Trend and €45,290 in Life. The 77 kWh rear-wheel-drive car (286 PS) costs €46,990 in Life and €52,100 in Style, and the 4MOTION (299 PS) costs €49,650 in Life and €54,760 in Style. In Germany it starts at €42,695, and the market launch is early 2027.

“The ID. Tiguan brings these two success stories together.”

Our Take

This is a comfortable family EV done properly. It has the range and the buttons the ID.4 never quite managed together, and the one to buy is the big-battery Style, for the range.

If boot space comes first, look at a Škoda Enyaq, which gives you roughly 50 litres more. The ID. Tiguan is on show at Auto Zürich next month, and the rest of Paris is in our Paris Motor Show 2026 hub. AUTO TV score: 9.1.
