On a regional show floor, a premiere label tells you where a car has not been shown before. It rarely tells you the car is new to buyers. At Basel, four of the five labels we could check sat beside an earlier order date or an earlier premiere in the brand’s own releases.
We went back through our photographs from Basel, Graz, Salzburg and Erfurt and compared each label with what the brand or importer had published. The labels are rarely false. They simply mean different things. From here on, we use “premiere” only as the organiser or brand used it, and we say who.
Basel: Twelve Swiss Premieres And One European
AUTO/MOBIL Basel ran from 5 to 7 September 2025 in the St. Jakobshalle, and we were there on 5 and 6 September. The organiser’s highlights page (archive copy of 25 September 2025) lists 38 cars.
Twelve of them carry the label “Schweizer Premiere”, and the JAC E30X carries “Europapremiere”. No world premiere is claimed. We checked five labels against statements from the brands and importers.
| Car | Basel label and price | Brand or importer statement | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| DS N°8 | “Schweizer Premiere”, CHF 49,900 | DS Switzerland, 6 Mar 2025: “ab sofort bestellbar”, from CHF 49,900, first deliveries planned for the second half of 2025 | Orderable about six months earlier |
| Leapmotor C10 REEV | “Schweizer Premiere”, CHF 35,900 | Stellantis Switzerland, 22 Apr 2025: C10 and C10 REEV “ab sofort” orderable at 18 dealers, from CHF 35,990 | About 4.5 months |
| JAC E30X | “Europapremiere”, CHF 22,989 | JAC Switzerland, Sept 2024: the E30X was “celebrating its premiere in Europe” at that year’s Basel show, on sale from spring 2025 | The 2024 show had the premiere |
| Peugeot 3008 4×4 | “Schweizer Premiere”, CHF 56,900 | Peugeot Switzerland, 23 Jun 2025: E-3008 Dual Motor 325 Launch Edition “ab CHF 56’900 inkl. MwSt. bestellbar” | Orderable about ten weeks earlier, at the same price |
| Kia Sportage | “Schweizer Premiere”, CHF 29,950 | autosprint.ch, 13 Aug 2025: petrol cars first, Swiss prices “not yet known”, due in September | Plausible, unconfirmed |
The cost to a buyer is mostly time. The DS N°8 that Basel labelled a Swiss premiere had been “ab sofort bestellbar” since March, and we photographed it in Martigny on 21 March 2025, six months before Basel’s label.
Our Basel photographs also show the Kia Sportage and a black Leapmotor C10 whose door lettering reads “970 km Reichweite”, the C10 REEV’s total-range figure. The Toyota Urban Cruiser’s label could not be verified.
We did not check seven others: the Citroën C5 Aircross, Honda Civic e:HEV, Hyundai Ioniq 9, Mazda 6e, Mercedes CLA, Porsche Cayenne Black Edition and Škoda Elroq RS. A “Schweizer Premiere” may simply mean the first appearance on a Swiss show stand. That is a legitimate claim, and it is different from a launch.

Graz Puts The Region In The Label
The MotionExpo organiser (Messe Congress Graz) published two lists on 15 March 2026, headed “Österreich Premieren” and “Steiermark Premieren”. The qualifier does the work.
Our photographs include three of the listed cars. The BMW iX3 and the Mercedes GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ technology are both “Steiermark Premiere”, and the electric Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is an “Österreich Premiere”.
The BYD Atto 2 DM-i shows how local that can be. It was a Steiermark premiere in Graz and stood in Innsbruck the same week. The organiser’s XPENG P7+ entry, meanwhile, said orders were opening in Austria, with deliveries from April.

Salzburg’s Premiere Was A Leisure Fair
The Salzburg organiser’s closing release of 9 March 2026 is headed “Frühlingsauftakt mit Premiere”. The premiere is the first Freizeit Messe, a leisure fair held beside the car show, and the release claims no car premiere.
On the floor, a green Renault Twingo wore a windscreen sign reading “PREMIERE”, the dealer’s own word. Renault Austria’s release of 26 May 2026 put the sales start at the Renault Rendezvous of 28 to 30 May and gave the price as from €19,990.

Erfurt: A Deutschlandpremiere Two Weeks After Brussels
Autohaus’s reports from Erfurt use specific wording. The Jeep Compass “feiert seine Deutschlandpremiere”, and the Suzuki e Vitara was “erstmals in Europa öffentlich zu sehen”.
In our photographs, a light-blue Kia carries a windscreen sign reading “Deutschlandpremiere. Der neue Kia EV2.” Kia unveiled the EV2 at the Brussels Motor Show on 9 January 2026, two weeks before Erfurt, and German orders opened on 17 March (electrive).
We cannot say whether it was the first showing in Germany. We can say the dealer called it one.

Ask Who Said It, And Where
On these floors “premiere” is a regional word: Swiss, Austrian, Styrian, German, or the dealer’s own. It tells a visitor where the car has not been shown before. Whether it can already be ordered is a separate question.
So when a sign says premiere, look for two things: who put it there, and which region it names. We will not call anything a premiere unless the organiser or the brand did, and we will say who did.
